The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is abeautiful creation that excels both in terms of intensity and complexity. Thebouquet is profound and multilayered with thin and delicate layers of fruitthat peel back with individual precision and personality. Ripe cherry fruit iscarefully balanced against spice, tar and smoke. The wine also offers prettydetails of crushed rock and dried garden herb. There's a lot to keep yourattention and win your affections. Some 6,900 bottles were made.

I am experiencing a Capanna enlightenment.Looking back at my past scores (which are a few points lower on averagecompared to these), either I failed to appreciate these wines, or they made ahuge jump forward in winemaking excellence this past year (despite the vintagedifficulties). Maybe it's a bit of both. The 2013 Brunello di MontalcinoRiserva is a true beauty, and the 2014 Brunello di Montalcino picks up whereothers have failed. The 2015 Moscadello di Montalcino Vendemmia Tardiva is alittle taste of paradise. This set of wines completed one of my favoriteflights tasted from Montalcino this year.
